Adolf von Hildebrand

Adolf von Hildebrand (Marburg 1847 - 1921 München)

Autumn, 1886/78

Plaster, terracotta colored
120 x 80 cm
Inscribed “Autun[no]”

Hildebrand's own children were his inspiration for many drawings and sculptures. Our relief, titled "Autun(no)" was apparently one of a series depicting the four seasons intended for a decoration in San Franceso. A further design for a relief (Esche-Braunfels cat. no. 177) shows the five children playing with their mother.
