This and another sketch in oil are studies for a large canvas (149 x 211 cm) by Georg and his brother Cantius Dillis, today in the Bavarian State Collections, that originally formed part of a series for the dining room of the "Forst Rat" Matthias von Schilcher in Schloss Dietramszell (Upper Bavaria). The other study in oil, a summer landscape, differs in perspectival details and is now in the collection of the Lenbachhaus, Munich (see ill. in: Johann Georg von Dillis, Neue Pinakothek, Munich, and Albertinum, Dresden, 1992, cat. no. 55).
