Carl Friedrich Schick studied at the Düsseldorf Academy. Initially drawn to genre painting, he later turned to history painting and settled in Karlsruhe.
One of his known paintings of the earlier period The Dead Child surrounded by Playmates similar in style to our Father and Son is in the collection of the Kunsthalle Karlsruhe.
