After briefly studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, Fritz Schider together with his friend Hans Makart went to Munich in 1868. At the First International Art Exhibition in 1869, Courbet became a strong influence. His impressionist style was enhanced by the Leibl Kreis, which he joined in 1871. Leibl and Schider became close friends. In 1873, he married Leibl's niece Lina Kirchdorffer (a life-size portrait of her in the Residenzgalerie Salzburg, inv. no. 249)
A portrait of Lina Kirchdorffer by Wilhelm Leibl, painted in 1871, in the Bayerische Staatsgemäldesammlung - Neue Pinakothek (inv. no. 8446).
