The painting is registered in the 'Ferdinand Hodler Archive' of the Swiss Institute for Art Research, Zurich.

This portrait of Clara Pasche-Battié is closely related to the monumental painting "Blick in die Unendlichkeit", 1916. The sitter is the central figure in the large version, Kunsthaus Zürich as well as in the version of the Hahnloser collection, Kunstmuseum Bern.
