Abstract Composition I, c. 1905

Watercolour and gouache on paper, mounted on cardboard
47 x 91 cm
Signed lower right: 'Kley'

Similarly to his colleague Obrist, Kley concerned himself at the beginning of the 20th century with abstraction. Unlike his Munich colleagues Kley discards organic and vegetal abstractions to concentrate on color dynamism. Shortly after this phase ended in a return to figurative composition.
